I feel incredibly lucky to have had such fantastic teachers in Ben Lambert and Craig Blundell (world renowned educator and Roland’s international clinician). Their enthusiasm and passion for drumming was hugely infectious and it’s something I hopefully bring to my tuition now. Having those solid foundations made me realise just how important the fundamentals of drumming are and I feel privileged to pass my knowledge on to other budding musicians.

Students are taken through Rockschool grades. These qualifications are internationally recognised and operate in 18 different countries outside the UK. The syllabuses are designed to develop a whole range of skills that reflect the realistic requirements of being a musician in today's world. Rockschool grades also have fantastic academic uses too. Grades can count towards GCSEs for college acceptance and UCAS points for people applying for university.

Obviously grades are optional, some people like to take them, others don’t. Personally I feel using the RockSchool grades are a great tool when learning the drums. Grades can give students direction and a goal to work towards but I feel grades work best as part of a whole subject being learnt, rather than the only thing I teach students.

About Steve

About Steve

"Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life."

Steve has been playing (and learning) the drums for over 20 years. Steve now divides his time between a busy teaching schedule and life as a session drummer.

Having built a great reputation within the music industry, Steve has been called upon by major record labels, management companies and video directors to work on a whole host of projects from touring, recording and more recently musical directing. Since becoming a professional musician, Steve has worked with Grammy, Brit and Ivor Novello award winning Singers, Songwriters, Engineers and Producers. He's also embarked on numerous UK and European tours, TV shows, radio sessions and major festival appearances.

I feel so privileged to have worked with such incredible talent over the years. Be it the gigs, the studios, the producers, I sometimes can’t believe I’m getting paid to do some of the amazing things I’ve been fortunate enough to experience. I love playing and teaching in equal measure. For me, they go hand in hand and, in actual fact, compliment each other. It’s great to share my experience and passion with other drummers and help them on their own journeys.

South Coast Drum Tuition Student Showcase - Dec 2017

To celebrate another fantastic year of progression and achievement, SCDT asked a handful of students to perform and record some grade pieces. It was a fantastic day and wonderful opportunity for the students to experience the workings of a professional recording studio.

Full versions of all the students brilliant performances can be found here

Filmed, Edited and Directed by Adam Prosser - Recorded, Mixed and Engineered by Samhain Carter-Brazier

Special thanks to Matt Watson for not only his fantastic drumming, but his excellent camera work and assistance to Adam. Well done Matt!

Bruno Mars, Michael Jackson, Justin beiber, twenty one pilots, rihanna and chilli peppers mash-up medley.

One of the schools Steve teaches at asked if he and the schools guitar and bass teacher (Stevey Marsh) could put together a piece of music and perform it in an assembly. The idea was to play something that would get young people excited about learning an instrument. They had such a good time playing and creating the track they decided to record and film their efforts.
